Save money on your summer travel by using credit cards wisely

[Thursday, August 4th, 2011]

With the onset of summer, it is not uncommon to see people packing their bags and taking the much needed vacation to get away from the din of daily life. But, with prices of fuel climbing northward with each passing day, the cost of this vacation just seems to get bigger. The best way to save a significant amount of money without compromising on your vacation is by carrying the right type of credit cards in your wallet.

The gas station credit cards are the most useful cards if you plan to take a road trip. These cards offer either cash back or points for every purchase made at gas stations which can be redeemed for free fuel at a later date. Ensure you check the expiry date for the points and the number of points you have before you set out on the trip, especially if you are on a shoestring budget.

If you prefer flying to far off places than driving down to the ones closer home, then you can benefit from credit cards that offer air miles for every purchase made using the card. Credit cards that offer frequent flier miles are available in abundance today. However, it is imperative to choose the right ones since some of them can be very expensive, despite the perks offered. The air miles cards that are offered by banks are much more useful than the cards that are offered by private airlines since the choice in the case of latter is pretty limited.
